Description
Pat. 1881 Simmons Hardware Co., St. Louis, Missouri "The Self Weighing Shot Case." Oak case stenciled on front, "The Self Weighing Shot Case; Pat. May 10, 1881," on top, "Vandergrift Mfg. Co. (only partially legible), " and on back, "Simmons Hardware Co. Agents." The case was manufactured by Vandergrift, Shelbyville, Indiana for Simmons Hardware Co., St. Louis, Missouri. The back also has a partial Directions paper label. Case has a round catch drawer. The customer would turn a lever for their desired shot and it would fill the drawer with a measured amount of the selected shot. There are (10) glass windows to view from buck shot to number 7 shot. Measures 18 3/4" high X 30 3/4" wide X 11" deep. ***THIS LOT IS NOT BEING SOLD FOR ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY***
Condition: Condition- Overall good condition in the original varnish. Finish has some scratches, wear, stains, etc. Back edge of case is missing splinter of wood the entire length of the case, 30 3/4" long X 7/8" wide at the widest point and narrows to a 1/4". Missing molding from back edge. The dispensing mechanism is in place inside the case. The case is complete, interior appears to be all intact. Catch drawer with white porcelain knob is missing chip from top edge. See photos.
