Description
RARE American Collier Shot Tower Advertising Display, Circa 1880. Pressed glass miniature drop shot display tower counter advertising or paperweight. This tower has embossed castle features and embossed lettering on two sides of the step base that reads, "Collier Shot Tower Company, St. Louis, MO." The tower holds a display of graduated shots ranging in size from OO-#13. A label under glass identifies the shot glasses as they graduate from larger sizes in the base to smaller sizes in the top. Shot towers were used in the 19th Century to manufacture drop shot ammunition. Molten lead was dropped from the top of the tower and solidified into spears as it fell to a water basin below. The inside of base is reverse painted with gold paint. Measures 3 3/4" square X 9" high. This tower comes with a 25 Lbs. No. 4 drop shot canvas bag. Marked, "Collier Shot Tower Company, St. Louis, MO." Also included is a November 23, 1897 letter with Collier Shot Tower Works letter head. The letter is to family from employee with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year wishes. Measures 8 1/2" X 11". ***THIS LOT IS NOT BEING SOLD FOR ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY***
Condition: Condition- Overall good condition with some small chips at top and lower edge of base. Some losses to gold paint. Shot size label has some discoloration. See photos.
