Description
RARE Standard Chemical Co. Radium Chemical Company Distributor Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Radium Needle Vial and Case, 1920’s-1930’s. These containers were used for transporting small radium needles or tubes. Comes with the original velvet-lined leatherette case with the company and distributor names in gold lettering. The container is also marked with the company and distributors names. Hexagonal vial measures 7 cm long X 2 cm diameter X 6mm thick. According to Oak Ridge Associated Universities web site, the vial appears to be plated brass and an analysis by x-ray fluorescence showed nickel, copper and zinc contents, but no lead or iron. The only example we were able to locate is in the Museum of Radiation and Radioactivity in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This vial and case are from the Estate of Dr. Maury McRae, founder of the McRae Hospital in Corinth, Mississippi. ***THIS LOT IS NOT BEING SOLD FOR ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY***
