Description
(2) Maison Auzoux (French, 1797-1880) Human Eye Anatomical Models, 19th Century. Louis Thomas Jerome Auzoux (trade name Maison Auzoux) was a French anatomist and naturalist known for his detailed models called "anatomy clastique." (Greek klastos: broken in pieces, called this because they could be taken apart to show the full model). These eye models were created with a plaster molds lined with several layers of colored paper imbibed with glue. The parts of the eyes have an affixed paper label (written in French) with the name of the part (models could be missing some labels). The front of the eye with convex glass lid unscrews to reveal its interior parts. Both models come with loose lens, 1" thick X 2" diameter. Measure approximately 7 1/2" high X 6 3/8" wide X 10 1/4" deep. Provenance the remaining inventory of Antique Archaeology, closed Nashville, Tennessee location.
Condition: Condition- One Model is in overall good condition but is fragile. One model’s convex glass lens is broken and has repaint. Both models could be missing paper labels. Both have various degrees of paint loss and wear. The model with the broken lens has damage at hinge. These models should be picked up in person or delivered by a private carrier. See photos.
