2 Hardcover Volumes of Typographia or the Printers Instructor by J. Johnson published by Messrs. Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, Brown & Green, Paternoster Row London c. 1824 1st Edition, 16 mo size. "Including an account of the origin of printing with biographical notices of the printers of England, from Caxton to the close of the Sixteenth Century. A series of ancient and modern alphabets, and Domesday characters: together with an elucidation of every subject connected with the Art." This first edition was published in four sizes: 32mo, 16mo, octavo, and royal octavo?with the last distributed to the Roxburghe Club. Two Volume Three Quarter Brown Calf Leather Bound Set with marbleized boards and end sheets. Gilt lettering and decoration on spine with raised bands. Gilt top edge with uncut fore and bottom edge. Each volume measures 5" x 3 1/2" x 1 3/4"
Condition: Vol. I – Condition – Very Good – calf leather cover is worn on edges. Front board is loose but intact. Back board is detached. Spine is worn at joints. Head and tail have loss. Part of volume information on spine is missing. Small hole at bottom of first page (Claxton engraving). Light toning consistent with age. Text block is in near fine condition. Vol. II – Condition – Good – calf leather cover is worn on edges. Front board is loose but intact. Spine is worn at joints. Head and tail have loss. Part of volume information on spine is missing.
