2 Hardcover Volumes of Typographia or the Printers Instructor by J. Johnson published by Messrs. Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, Brown & Green, Paternoster Row London c. 1824 1st Edition, 16 mo size. "Including an account of the origin of printing with biographical notices of the printers of England, from Caxton to the close of the Sixteenth Century. A series of ancient and modern alphabets, and Domesday characters: together with an elucidation of every subject connected with the Art." This first edition was published in four sizes: 32mo, 16mo, octavo, and royal octavo?with the last distributed to the Roxburghe Club. Small Two Volume Original Brown Cloth Binding Set. Paper Label on spine reads "Small Paper. Johnson’s Typographia, in two volumes, Vol I. Price Thirty Shillings." Each volume measures 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" x 1 3/4"
Condition: Vol. I and II – Condition – Fine – Original brown cloth binding soiled and stained consistent with use and age. Corners bumped. Spine lightly faded. Paper label soiled and worn. Bindings are tight. Top edge soiled. Endpapers toned with pencil notations. Both volumes in beautiful condition. Please see photos.
