2 Hardcover Volumes of Typographia or the Printers Instructor by J. Johnson published by Messrs. Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, Brown & Green, Paternoster Row London c. 1824 1st Edition Octavo Format. "Including an account of the origin of printing with biographical notices of the printers of England, from Caxton to the close of the Sixteenth Century. A series of ancient and modern alphabets, and Domesday characters: together with an elucidation of every subject connected with the Art." This first edition was published in four sizes: 32mo, 16mo, octavo, and royal octavo?with the last distributed to the Roxburghe Club. Two Volume Three Quarter Brown Morrocco Leather Bound Set with marbleized boards and end sheets. Gilt lettering and decoration on spine with raised bands. Gilt top edge with uncut fore and bottom edge. Each volume measures 7 11/16" x 4 1/2" x 1 3/4"
Condition: Vol. I – Condition – Very Good – Morocco leather biding has wear to edges. Top right corner has wear and loss (block not impacted) on front and back board. Spine has wear. Head has area of loss. Upper spine is split from front board approx. 3" but intact. Front hinge split but intact. Remnants of ex-libris inside front cover. Front end papers are split about 3 inches but intact. Remainder of binding is tight. Foxing to first 5 or 6 pages. Remainer of block is in beautiful condition with occasional light toning consistent with age and use. Vol. II – Condition – Very Good – Morocco leather biding has wear to edges and corners. Spine has wear. Head has area of loss. Spine is split from front board but intact. Light foxing to first few pages and last few pages. Remainder of block in beautiful condition. Please see photos.
