Description
1 Hardcover Antique Book in Latin and Greek by Constantini Lascaris (Greek Scholar and Grammarian 1434-1501), printed by Melchiorre Sessa Venice c. 1533 in later vellum binding. The tenth edition of the first work (printed in Milan in 1476). Title: "De octo orationis partibus vna cum eiusdem authoris et aliorum opusculis, atque additionibus tum ad graecam, tum ad hebraicam introductionem, quae hanc voluenti paginam statim se offerunt atque ea quidem omnia cum interpretatione latina, & quam antea vnquam prodierint, emendatiora." Book is a collection of grammatical and linguistic works related to Greek and Hebrew, authored by Constantinus Lascaris, and published by Sessa. Sessa’s printers device appears on last page. Book measures 6 1/8" x 4 1/2" x 2". Similar volume sold at Sotheby’s Oct. 18, 2003 for $508.
Condition: Condition – Fine – later vellum binding is tight. Front and back cover have Hebrew text and show very light wear to edges. Some minor stains and soiling consistent with age and use. Spine is printed with "Lascaris" and has four raised bands. Head has a very small tear on right side that has been repaired. Tail shows some minor wear. Text block edges are soiled. Former owner (G.S. Cusin) ex-libris inside front cover. Text block has foxing, toning and water stains throughout but in overall fine condition. Please see photos.
