George Washington Martin (1839 – 1913) laid off the town of Martin, Tennessee in May, 1873. Sterling Silver flatware engraved Martin and descended from the Col. G.W. Martin family, founders of Martin, Tennessee. (8) Wightman & Hough Company, Providence, RI. Sterling silver tablespoons engraved "Martin", 7" Long, weigh 9.11 Ounces Troy. (1) Wightman & Hough Company, Providence, RI. Sterling silver serving spoon engraved "Martin", 8 1/4" long and weighs 1.59 Ounces Troy. (1) Martin family scrapbook with a hand written obituary account of Mr. Martin’s life relating his laying off the city of Martin, Tennessee, May 1873. The obituary asked that the merchants of Martin close their businesses for his funeral from noon to 3:00 PM on April 15th, 1913, in his honor. The scrapbook contains numerous newspaper obituaries for Colonel Martin. Condition – The silver is in good condition. The scrap book has losses and toning damage. See photos.
