Description
J. & J. W. Meeks Stanton Hall Sofa & Chair. This laminated rosewood sofa and chair are believed to be original to Waverly Mansion. This set was supposedly in the house when Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest spent two weeks at the mansion recovering from a bullet wound during the Civil War. Sofa measures 47 3/4" high X 65" long X 36" deep at center, seat is 17 1/2" high. Chair measures 42" high X 27" wide X 33 1/2" deep, seat is 16 1/2" high. Provenance: Waverly Mansion Circa 1852, West Point, Mississippi Collection, Charlie and Dana Stephenson. Condition- Upholstery is a tattered damask and needs replacing. Sofa and chair are missing parts and have damaged backs. Will require considerable restoration. See photos.
