Description
American William & Mary Walnut Highboy Circa 1720-1740s. This highboy origin of manufacture is most likely Massachusetts or Connecticut. Several old label fragments on back, one dated 1912. The highboy is in two sections with nine drawers total. Burl walnut drawer fronts with mahogany banding. Secondary wood is pine. Drawers are dovetailed with chamfered bottoms. Side of case is dovetailed to top. Back is chamfered at sides and hand hewn. Base has turned legs with joining stretcher. Measures 74 5/8" high X 40 1/2" wide X 22 5/8" deep. Provenance: Waverly Mansion Circa 1852, West Point, Mississippi Collection, Charlie and Dana Stephenson. Condition- Highboy is in good condition with some old repairs and wear. Boards on back of upper section do not match boards on base. This piece is a possible old marriage. See photos.
