Description
19th Century German Black Forest Carved Walnut Tantalus Set, C. 1870. This set has two carved goats standing on lid. Side and front panels are decorated with applied flowers. Scroll feet extend to case corners with a leaf design attachment. Measures approx. 18 1/2" high X 17 1/4" X 12 3/4". Set includes: (2) Hand blown crystal decanters, approx. 7" high with stopper. (4) Fastened Tantalus stems that match. (4) Additional stems that do not match. (1) Display stand with decanter and stem holders. Removable for serving. Provenance: George Johnson, Jackson, Tennessee. Condition- Set has some minor chips of wood missing, door has bow and will not close completely or lock. One decanter stopper has a chip. One stem will not fit display stand. See photos.
