Description
Civil War Era Remington New Model 1858 .44 Caliber Six-Shot Percussion Revolver. Marked on top of octagon barrel, "Patented Sept. 14, 1858/ E. Remington & Sons, ILion, New York, U.SA./ New Model." These revolvers were not serialized. The guns were manufactured between 1863-1875. The U.S. Ordnance Department only took deliveries of the .44 caliber model and not the .36 caliber models. Barrel: 8" long. Comes with what appears to be the original Civil War era leather holster and leather belt with a US army eagle buckle, 2 1/8" X 3 1/8". Also includes a Civil War era leather percussion cap box. Provenance the remaining inventory of Antique Archaeology, closed Nashville, Tennessee location.
Condition: Condition- Revolver’s trigger works and the cylinder turns but it has play. The revolver does not retain any of the original bluing. Revolver has overall wear and some old light rust. The bore has some rust. The percussion cap box is missing the leather straps on back. The belt and holster both have cracked, worn leather. See photos.
