Description
Civil War Surgeon’s Flask. Glass flask with pewter cap and base/cup with military identification inscription, “Surg. J. C. Manson 24th ME. Inf.” Measures 5″ high. In a letter to Governor Israel Washburn Jr. Dr. John Manson (1831-1885) of Pittsfield, Maine accepted the position of surgeon in his area, August 15, 1862. However, in a letter in September 9, 1862 he declined the position. Still he was mustered into the 24th Regiment at Augusta on September 20, 1862. Condition- Overall good condition with some dents and tarnish. Flask has a small interior flake/crack. See photos.
