Description
RARE Alexander H. Stevens (1812-1883) Vice President of the Confederate States of .America Cabinet Card Photograph. This card features Stevens holding onto the arm of longtime body servant, Alexander Kent (1850-1903). Alexander Kent was engaged to work for Stevens around 1880 at Liberty Hall, Stevens’ Crawfordville, Georgia Estate, and remained with him until Stevens death in March 1883. Kent was left $200 in Stevens will for his “kind attention to me.” From a 1900’s census it was stated that Kent could read and write and he owned a house, “free” (not mortgaged). Measures 3 3/4″ X 5 1/2″. Condition- Photograph has some toning and fading. See photos.
