Description
Civil War Era W. H. Horstmann U.S. Model 1852 Naval Officer’s Sword. Etched blade with symbols, stars, scrollwork, U.S.N. flag (United States Navy), anchor, and eagle. Etched with the original owner’s name: “?. N. Goldenberg.” Gilt brass hilt decorated with acanthus, “USN,” and eagle surrounded by stars on pommel. Fish skin grips with twisted brass wire. Ebonized wood scabbard with decorative brass knott mounts. Blade is marked, “W. H. Horstmann & Company Philadelphia; Proved.” Overall sword with scabbard: 35 1/4″ long. Blade: 29″ long. Condition- Brass has some oxidation and tarnish. Grip is in good condition. Blade has some surface rust. See photos.
