Description
Antique Stoneware Memory or Spirit Jug. In the 1800’s these jugs became popular across America. A layer of putty or cement was added to the jug and then adorned with various charms, mementos, and decorations that were reminiscent of the deceased loved one. These jugs very possibly have roots in the African American or African culture. Two gallon stoneware jug with gold paint. Decorations include all manner of small objects. Including a T & O.C railroad button, doll parts, several keys, spoon, and other assorted items. Measures approximately 14" high X 9" diameter. Provenance the remaining inventory of Antique Archaeology, closed Nashville, Tennessee location.
Condition: Condition- Jug appears to be in good condition with a small chip at mouth. A few of the decorative items are missing. See photos.
