Description
Extremely Rare 1954 Kid Gavilan Boxing Champion Coca Cola Sign Cardboard Sign. This fantastic sign is possibly the only known example. The sign features Kid Gavilan World Welterweight Champion (1951-1954) drinking a 6 1/2 o/z glass bottle of Coca Cola. The champ is wearing his boxing robe and a gold chain, flanked by a marquis reading "Kid Gavilan World’s Welterweight Champion, below a silhouette of a boxer and a drink Coca Cola button. Marked – Copyright 1954 The Coca Cola Company Litho. This sign could be displayed two different ways, it has an easel back or a factory cord for hanging the sign. Originally the sign could have been displayed as a standup sign in a carton. The carton insert portion was imprinted with the instructions " Cut off along dotted line when used as display card or hanger". Measures 12" Wide X 15 1/2" High. ***THIS LOT IS NOT BEING SOLD FOR ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY***
Condition: Condition – Great condition with some very minor edge and storage wear. Easel back has never been opened. Some light toning to verso. Originally the sign could have been displayed as a standup sign in a carton. The carton insert portion was imprinted with the instructions " Cut off along dotted line when used as display card or hanger". This carton insert section was removed along the dotted lines, making this sign a display card or hanger. The sign has two 5/8" factory cuts at the bottom. These were needed if the sign was used as a carton standup.
