1 Hardcover 1st Edition Ben-Hur A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace published by Harper & Brothers New York c. 1880. Publisher’s original brown textured cloth cover with the spine panel lettered in gilt. Considered "the most influential Christian book of the nineteenth century." It became a best-selling American novel, surpassing Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin (1852) in sales. The book also inspired other novels with biblical settings and was adapted for the stage and motion picture productions. 552 pages in English. Book measures 7" x 5 1/8" x 1 1/4"
Condition: Condition – Good – Brown cloth cover shows light wear. Corners bumped and worn. Spines shows wear at head and tail and along joint. Tear to spine over title. Endpapers are soiled. Flyleaf has former owner name in ink and is loose. Title page has three small tears to margin. Light toning. Edges are soiled. Please see photos.
