Description
2 Hardcover Barnhart Brothers & Spindler Type Superior Print Plant Equipment Catalogs (Typography Specimen Books). Set includes Catalog 25 and 25-A. Both include price lists. Published by Barnhart Brothers and Spindler Chicago c. 1925. "Type faces, border designs, typecast ornaments, brass rule, superior specialties, machines and materials, cabinet equipment Barnhart Brother & Spindler – Type founders, Manufacturers and Merchants to Printers." Navy blue embossed boards and spine with company logo and checkerboard design. Blue edges. Catalog 25 contains 719 pages and measures 11 1/4" x 8" x 2 1/8". Catalog 25-A contains 539 pages and measures 11 1/4" x 8" x 1 1/2". Both are heavily illustrated in color and black and white.
Condition: Catalog 25 – Condition – Very Good – Navy Blue cover shows some wear, spotting and light soiling consistent with use and age. Corners bumped. Spine shows wear to head and tail with a paint mark on tail. Bottom edge has "Type Faces" written in ink. Binding loose but intact. Binding blocks split in a few places throughout but intact. First 16 pages have water stain on lower right corner. Former owner name in ink and date stamp (April 15, 1931) on title page. Interior pages have soiling and hand-written notes, all consistent with use. Pricelist has some water stains and loss at top. Catalog 25-A – Near Fine – Tight binding. Cover shows very light wear. Corners, head and tail lightly bumped. Top edge lightly soiled. Light toning and soiling on a few pages in block. All consistent with use and age. Please see photos.
