Description
U.S. Civil War Leather Surgeon’s Field Companion Kit. Designed in 1863 by Medical Inspector Richard H. Coolidge, M. D. (1816-1866) these kits were used by Union surgeons during the war and were also called the “Coolidge Carrier Set.” Comes with its original chloroform tin, cotton (for chloroform administration), and (4) glass bottles. (1) Bottle has half of its original paper label and is marked, “Boston.” (1) Glass bottle with most of its paper label marked, “Geo. A. Brown & Co. Apothecaries;…..Boston.” Kit measures approximately 7 1/2″ high X 6″ X 12″. Kit also comes with a pair of 19th Century leather saddle bags, possibly Civil War. Condition- Field kit’s lid is detached. Kit has wear, deterioration, and water damage. Chloroform has rust and the bottom has rusted out. Saddlebags have wear, etc. See photos.
