Description
Civil War Abolitionist Propaganda CDV Slave Boy. Titled, “Freedom’s Banner. Charley, A Slave Boy from New Orleans.” Verso: “No. 7. Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1864, by S. Tackaberry, in the Clerk’s Office of the U.S for the Southern District of New-York. The nett proceeds from the sale of these Photographs will be devoted to the education of colored people in the department of the Gulf, now under the command of Maj. Gen. Banks. Chas. Paxson, Photographer, N. Y. N. B.- All orders must be addressed to H. N. Bent, No. 1 Mercer Street, N.Y.” The No. 7 version appears to be one of scarcest CDVs of the Charley CDVs. The only other examples we found were reprints or in institutions or museums. (1) CDV of Little girl with flag. Verso has a two cents proprietary stamp and reads, “D. A. M’CORD, Successor to Rankin & Co., Cartes De Vesite Rooms, No. 233 Central Avenue, Cincinnati, O.” Condition- Slave boy is in good condition with some toning. The young girl has fading, toning, and some stains. See photos.
